I’d recommend University of Liverpool, I’ve studied here for my degree, masters and PhD, I’ve loved it. There’s a great appetite and addiciton research group, but also forensic and language psychology is big here. But you need to look what else the uni has to offer, like societies and sports teams. The city it’s in plays a big role, that’s why I didn’t want to move away from Liverpool, it has everything.

I have studied at The University of Sheffield, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and The University of Nottingham (UON).
I have been working at UON for 7 years. Before that I worked at The University of Wolverhampton for 1 year, and The University of Derby for 6 months, but I wouldn’t rate these two universities as highly as Sheffield and Nottingham.
Sheffield and Nottingham both have very good Psychology Departments. I think NTU psychology department recently scored very highly in the rankings.
I would recommend going to open days and getting a feel for the University and speak to staff and students and ask any questions you may have.

I think do some research to find one that is right for you. There are online guides to the “best” universities for various degrees, like psychology. This is one example: https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/league-tables/rankings?s=psychology

But there is so much more to it than this. My advice is to find out as much as you can now. Most universities have open days. This is when students interested in studying at University can go along and find out more about the university and the course they are interested in. If you search online by typing the name of a university followed by “open day”, you should find dates for that university. My advice is to go along (some schools organise trips – ask your teacher). You can learn so much more about the university; is it a nice place to be, is there lots to do, are there clubs and societies that you would be interested in joining. All of this is important.

As the others have recommended open days are a fantastic way to get a feel for a Uni – I studied at University of Edinburgh for both my undergraduate and PhD and I absolutely fell in love with the city as soon as I visited it (although I’m a neuroscientist, but I know that Edinburgh has an excellent psychology programme as well!). My sister studied psychology at the University of Cardiff and absolutely loved it – it’s really up to where you feel most comfortable and happy! The most important thing is to make sure you also have lots of fun whilst you are studying for your degree – that’s one of the best things about going to University!
